How to Configure Two-Factor Authentication from Microsoft

How to set up two-factor authentication in Microsoft 


If you have 1Password, please make sure it is signed in.  


  1. Log in to Office365 at portal.office.com.  If you have 1Password, you should also save your credentials in 1Password.  This is important for later steps.



  1. When you log in, it will give you this message:



  1. Click next, and it will start you off with an authenticator application.  



  1. Select “I want to use a different authenticator app” if you have 1Password.  Otherwise, download the Microsoft Authenticator on your phone.  Either way, hit Next twice until you get to a QR code.   Note that your QR code will not have a black blotch in the middle.

After that, confirm the code it gives you, and finish the first stage.


  1. Next, it asks you to enter a phone number.  If you have the Dialpad app, use your Dialpad number.  Otherwise, enter your cell phone number, and hit next.



  1.  Hit, next, and confirm the code from Dialpad or your phone.  After that, it will say Verification complete:


Hit next and Done, and you should be all set.  




If you see something like the above on Teams or Outlook, click the Log in button and then use the code from your phone or 1Password.  You may need to restart the app as well, but once you do so, you should be set.
